Litchfield, Connecticut
The Town of Litchfield, located in the picturesque northwest corner of Connecticut and Litchfield County, is rich in history, beauty, and tranquility. Litchfield and surrounding towns are affectionately known as the Litchfield Hills, and with good reason. The sprawling country roads boast some impressive hills enjoyed by cyclists and motorists, especially in October when fall foliage offers one of the most spectacular natural shows of beauty anywhere in New England.
Every June since 1977, the relatively small Town of Litchfield hosts the Litchfield Hills Road Race, a 7.1-mile running race that has established itself as one of the most popular races in the United States with an impressive pedigree and International roster of participants. The race is part of a weekend celebration that is part homecoming, part family reunion, and part athletic contest. The spirit of this event is unmatched in New England (except perhaps the Boston Marathon and Falmouth Road Race).
In addition to the Litchfield Hills Road Race, the town is home to Bantam Lake, the largest natural lake in Connecticut. A July 4th celebration, the first law school in America, Whites Woods Memorial, Bantam, antiques, restaurants, horseback riding, and many other local attractions.
