If you're a business owner, you likely already know that product management is an important aspect for keeping things on target and moving forward in an efficient manner. For technology-based offerings, this is especially important since changes in the product or service environment or competitive landscape you operate in can often change without notice and demand a constant pivot from an original specification document or planned direction. In recent years, adoption of agile product development and/or rapid application development disciplines across an organization have helped redefine effective product management.

Having spent several years early in my career working in a product management capacity, for computer software products, I developed a keen appreciation early on for the little things that, if left unaddressed, could become larger issues later. Over the years that followed, those lessons stayed with me, both for employers and clients alike. In fact, it's often easier to look at things objectively from an outsiders perspective in a consultant/client capacity.
