Writing
Whether writing is an art, a skill, a science — or some combination of all three, and more, can easily be debated without a definitive conclusion. One thing that is certain, however, is that the power of the written word can make a lasting impression and be a successful means to accomplish a variety of goals. Writing can be used to help us persuade, advocate, teach, memorialize, clarify, and countless other goals.
We've all heard the old adage, "The pen is mightier than the sword," which is attributed to English author Edward Bulwer-Lytton (1839). There are different interpretations, but it is generally considered to mean that written communication is a more effective tool than violence.
In the business world, different types of writing are critical for different circumstances. One message or tone can be used with young, loyal customers, but an entirely different type of written message would be required for a quarterly financial presentation to a board of directors or analyists on Wall Street. Choosing the wrong words or tone in your written or oral presentation could easily be the difference between the success and failure.
The increased importance in Internet and electronic media has also introduced some important considerations which impact the written word. Given that each word is indexed by powerful search engines, the selection of each word becomes a highly competitive activity in and of itself. Do you have the skills in house for all the different types of writing you must do for your organization? Are you thinking about an upcoming business proposal or looking for a grant writer to help you convey a fresh perspective on your product, service, event or destination?
In addition to being an award winning author, I have written scores of articles for publication, many on complex and technical topics, as well as numerous grant proposals and business proposals seeking strategic alliances or funding for critical projects. I've also worked with many clients to identify the keywords most impactful for their business, especially those which can be used as an important source for new customer acquisition and prospecting.
