Analytics

Analytics is defined as the discovery, interpretation, and communication of meaningful patterns in data; and the process of applying those patterns towards effective decision making. Organizations of all types and sizes have been engaged in analytics long before the term came into common use. Whether you refer to them as metrics, data analysis, business reporting, number crunching, key performance indicators (KPI) or any number of other terms, there is a common understanding that measuring different aspects of our business activity is critical to understanding the relative success of our efforts. Can you identify the 80/20 rule in your organization?

In much the same way that medical professionals monitor a host of vital signs for each patient, we need to look at both a snapshot in time and trends over time to see the full and true picture of any program, activity or business. As we make refinements, we should have systems in place to monitor the changes resulting from those efforts.
