Google Your Family Tree

After many years of presenting at conferences and meetings about tips and techniques for using Google to search the Internet for clues most relevant for family history research, I authored a book which was published in October 2008. With permission from Google, the name Google Your Family Tree quickly became synonymous with online genealogy and I am pleased to have taught hundreds of thousands of family historians how to become expert in the use of this powerful Internet search engine.

In 2012, I was invited to visit Google's world headquarters in Mountain View, California, and was excited to share the concepts discussed in my book with some of the very same people who had built the tools which have so profoundly changed the nature of genealogy research.

One of the many highlights of my visit to Google headquarters (other than being accompanied by one of my daughters and her friend while on winter break) was meeting Google employee #107, Chade-Meng Tan, the search giants Jolly Good Fellow. There was a wall of photographs featuring the many world leaders and other dignitaries that had been welcomed by Meng, but I just happened to get lucky that he was walking through the lobby as my hosts were giving me a tour before my presentation.
